Hello Pack!
This blog is about "stop over" towns. These are places that are excellent for all your needs, but not necessarily where the pack would stay long term.
Let's start with Bowral and Mittagong, as we did not stay here, we just visited here.
BOWRAL.
I have been to Bowral many times, but more as a stop through or visiting people. It's a beautiful town, with plenty to do. I still used it as a stop over, taking the time to go to Woolworths, the bottleshop and the chemist for all the necessities. I also had to do a shop at Target for some bits and pieces, such as a doona for the doggos...
The Woolworths is big and has plenty of underground parking, as well as above ground parking near the door. After successfully getting through the height limit of 2.1m, although clearly with more than a 2.1m height, I went straight back to the street to park (plenty of street parking.)
Everything in town is walking distance and is a really nice walk. This town has a great vibe.
I also visited the Mary Poppins statue (Glebe Park, next to the Don Bradman Museum!) This park is gorgeous and the coffee from the Don Bradman Museum was one of the best that I've had! Also picked up a cute little kelpie card.
MITTAGONG.
Well, Mittagong is massive. Just when you think you've come to the end of it, whole new sections open up. It seems ongoing!
This is a seriously perfect stop for all of your needs; there are shopping centres with all the camping and 4x4 stores, pet stores, supermarkets, hardware stores and everything else you could possibly imagine.
There was a field outside Bunnings which was a perfect stop for the doggos to have a quick play while Dog Dad went in for supplies.
There were also a lot of lookouts on one stretch of scenic road, including Bowral Lookout which had amenities and picnic area; I didn't think much of the lookouts, couldn't see much from the trees in the way, however the drive between each lookout has amazing views and the stretch of road is nice.
There is also an amazing Information Centre with award winning toilets.
MOSS VALE.
We stayed at the Showgrounds; for us, this was a MUST DO as this was where we found our Signature Elite X camper at the Caravan and Camper show last year. We wanted to stay here because we needed to refill our water, have hot showers and reset the camper.
The Showgrounds were lovely to stay at; for $25 per night the facilities are well maintained and the women's bathroom has a table of books and dvds should you get bored, it's quiet, walking distance to McDonalds and ALDI, close to town, has power and water.
The doggos loved walking themselves over to the showground itself to have a play. They were in for a treat with horses that were there overnight. It's right opposite Henderson Park that is kid and dog friendly. I enjoyed walking the boys to Maccas to get a coffee and walking them back to the park to play. It was early morning, so no kids there and we went exploring, looking at the neighbour's goats!
As we only stayed at Moss Vale, this is the only one with a breakdown:
*BREAKDOWN*
Facilities: Moss Vale Showground
Cost: $25 per night
Internet: Excellent phone and internet reception
Electricity: Yes, powered sites
Drop Point: Yes
Toilets/ Showers: Yes - clean, hot, well maintained
View: Yes and no - it's nice enough to look at the showground and the surrounds
Noise: Showgrounds are quiet, but is next to a main road so you do get truck noise
Dog Friendly: Very - off leash in the showgrounds
Long Stay : If you can afford it, it is a nice long stay but for us it's just a stop over
Close To ...: ALDI, McDonalds, dog friendly park and town
Notes : Gates are usually locked during the day and the bathrooms have a code so ask the caretaker when you first book if he doesn't come to see you straight away. You'll need to know how to level your camper as you can't swap sites.
To book, call the Caretaker on 0474186458.
That's all from us, folks. For now. We've had plenty of adventures since this blog, and many more to come!
Also, stay tuned for the blog about our Rig and modifications. Jared's been working on that for 3 weeks; it's epically detailed!
Happy and safe travels to you all xo
